The Annual Welsh Bernese Get-Together and All Breeds Companion Dog Show
In aid of Bernese Welfare UK
was held on 23rd June 2012
at Llys Derwen, Fford Bryngwyn, LLanrug, Caernarfon,
What more could anyone say about the persistent rain affecting the UK in recent weeks (and months!) other than it has been, for many, a nightmare - and a recurring nightmare at that.
As the date for the Welsh Bernese Get-Together and Companion Dog Show in aid of Bernese Welfare UK drew near there were many eyes on the skies hoping that the awful weather would not scupper all plans for another successful event. Scheduled to take place on 23rd June at the usual venue, Bethan Jones' home in Lanrug, near Caernarfon, Blackpool show scheduled to be held further north over the same weekend managed to struggle through on the Friday but weather conditions forced the organisers to cancel the Saturday and Sunday dates. Little did anyone realise that would in fact benefit Bethan's event as the weather decided to be kind to North Wales for the Saturday and some who had been entered at Blackpool on Gundog day attended Llys Derwen and showed their dogs there instead!
This was the 14th consecutive year that this popular gathering and event has been held at Bethan's home, although the date was a little later than the usual late May/early June fixture due to the Queen's Jubilee celebrations - hopefully next years event will return to a more 'traditional' date in the calendar.
Once again we are humbled by the selfless generosity of those who rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in, under Bethan's guidance, to create an event that is so well supported. It never fails to surprise me that so many folk attend because they want to do something positive for less fortunate Bernese as well as have a good time. And a good time they DID have!
Dogs of all shapes and sizes filled the Companion classes and there was an obedience and dog dancing display, a massed attendance of Bernese and Carts competing and displaying and all sorts of other attractions to keep folk amused plus well fed and watered. There was cloud at times and a very few spots of rain dared to fall for just a few minutes but people stayed and supported the fundraising.
The total sum generated by this show has amounted to a magnificent £2135 and of course every single penny goes to help needy Bernese as not one single penny received by Bernese Welfare UK is, or has ever been, diverted to pay Honorariums or gratuities.
Sincere thanks to all of you who helped, attended and/or made donations.
Most of these photographs (below) were taken on the day by Lionel and Jan Lodge - Thank you!
There were too many photos to fit on this page so a second Gallery of photos of Bernese and carts
